Why play Pickup?
Pick-up soccer is a great supplement to the more structured club environment. Small sided pickup games are where players can truly develop their love for the game. It’s a place for them to explore themselves and find out who they are as a player. In this environment players can use their creativity to find success without the well-intentioned influence of adults.
A popular quote attributed to Johan Cruyff states: “I trained three to four hours a week with Ajax when I was little but I played three to four hours every day on the street. So where do you think I learnt football?”
Former Manchester United star and current DC United Head coach Wayne Rooney said, “playing in these small games and just working hard on skills, tricks, moves, it will help massively in the long run. Everything I learnt came from those small matches. The tactical side of things comes later but 95 percent of my game is from those days playing as a kid.”
Benefits of small-sided pickup games:
We look forward to seeing you on the pitch!!
